This is the first time I've ever written a review and I feel compelled to do so. There are a number of good recipes in this book and as such I have decided not to return it. I've also never returned anything to Amazon before.That being said, there are a number of issues with this cookbook that you need to know about before you buy it. First, there are no pictures. Which is fine for me, but for some people its a big deal. The other thing you need to know is that there are a lot of recopies in this book that are NOT actually Keto.Keto, by definition is fairly strict in terms of its make up. It is a high fat, low-carb with moderate amounts of protein way of eating. The typical caloric breakdown is 65%-75% healthy fats, with 15%-25% protein and 5%-10% carbs. The book even talks about this breakdown in the intro section. But then goes on to include quite a few recipes that do not meet this criteria.There are a lot of recipes in this book that based on the listed nutritional breakdown could only be described as high protein, low carb with moderate amounts of fat. And that's just not Keto.I do like a number of the recipes in the book and have decided to keep it, but if you are looking for a collection of strictly KETO recipes to make with your instant pot, this may not be for you.

Recipes are confusing to an Instant Pot owner. Many call for placing the contents in "a pan" and placing the pan into the Instant Pot. Do not own a round pan that would fit into my Instant Pot so in reviewing the recipes, have to reject them.Agree to with other reviewers that the recipes are incomplete in some cases and appear to have been copied from some other source so that they could become a part of the book. Am continuing to look for another cookbook with printing integrity. And, one that realizes that all people don't own a six or eight quart Instant Pot.

So easy to follow with the book open in the kitchen. The section on instapot basics was also very helpful for an instapot newbie like me. Oh, and the images of the food make your mouth water.

Many call for setting the substance in "a skillet" and putting the dish into the Instant Pot. Competent writing, but the romance aspect depressed the hell outta me, and there were several typographical errors that any halfway decent editor could spot a mile away. Also, the term "all the sudden" which never fails to make my eye twitch with rage.But seriously, I'm bummed...mostly because my expectations about how this would pan out were vastly different from what actually happened. If you're looking for a law enforcement romance, so yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Well written, good characters. Convoluted plot. One thing I appreciate is that it isn't mostly sex scenes. I am tired of picking up LGBT mysteries only to discover they are actually erotica. (If I wanted erotica, that's what I'd be buying. Not fond of false labeling and advertising.) I will definitely buy the next. There are a few editing glitches, nothing major but a few were a bit jarring.

Hazard is angry about his past and his boyfriend and for some reason left St. Louis to return to his home town (the name of which irritated me throughout the entire book because I didn’t know how to pronounce it). His new partner is one of his high school bullies who is now a RAMPAGING alcoholic (why, I don’t really know), but they shared A Thing in high school which gets alluded to over and over. There’s no real resolution of any kind, and all the characters are very one-dimensional. I won’t be bothering with the sequels.

This review is based on the first 12% of the book, after which I bailed on it and deleted it. The characters came across to me as cartoonish and both they and the plot were unbelievable. I couldn't move past things such as the detectives who said they'd "dust for prints" while investigating a vandalized garage door--it had been spray-painted, not broken into. I hit the delete button when the trailer fire happened. That scene was set in a way that was also completely implausible. Sometimes stories can be okay even despite plot inconsistencies and unrealistic staging, and some people don't focus on those types of details in any case. Engaging characters and a plot that otherwise hangs together can overcome these problems, though as noted above, I didn't find much in the people I met in the first 12% to like. Judging from the other reviews, most people like the story, so my reaction is an outlier.

Where to start...I’ll make it short. I love detective series, and this one for that bill. It had build-up, character development, background story, surprise, not a lot of angst but enough that the plot was engaging.Needs and editor!!I wanted more MC romance, what I feel like I got was both MC’s extremely attracted to everyone else in town, including each other, but as just this passing notion. Like well he’s hot and she’s hot, and oh yeah he’s hot too but I’m so busy that sex or intimacy is like a fleeting feeling I have no interest in taking part of.So meh on that point. And it was a buzz kill for me.But overall it was a decent novel but I won’t go any further,

Not romance: mystery, with relationships and oh so much past baggage!Police detective Emery Hazard finds himself in an Enemies to Partners situation when he finds himself back in his hometown where he had been relentlessly bullied as the lone out gay teenager. John-Henry Somerset ("Somers"), now a detective, was one of those who harassed and beat him. But times have changed--Somers claims to have left his old self behind and the town of Wahredua is now a more bustling and open college town. Hazard is still the only openly gay member of the police force and maybe some things have changed, but maybe not.There are still the old hate-groups living up in the hills, and clashes with fanatic progressive groups in the University. That's interwoven into a death in the not-so-respectible part of town that might or might not be connected.Both being from this town, both Hazard and Somerset have all kinds of old ties--none of them pleasant. This is NOT a happy bright tale, even though crimes are solved at the end.Things are complex, to say the least, and the partners are representative of how severely messed up everything is. Do not bother to read if you don't like crime mysteries and partners who will be slow-burning as a series arc and not jumping right into bed. It's not happening. Somers is supposedly straight with an estranged wife and a child. Hazard, not surprisingly, is not a people-person. He's only focused on putting things right by solving cases in a bull-dozing way. It's probably the only thing he can somewhat control.If you like mysteries at all, and lots of psychology and insanity and angst--and heat but no sex scenes for release... try this out. I found it more than satisfying, and will be going on to read more of this amazing series.

4.5 - Pretty Pretty Boys is very good, first in a series that I’m looking forward to reading. A slow-burn mystery with lots of twists and turns, and a gut wrenching tug of war love-story unlike the typical tropes, yet searing without all the heat. Far more mystery and sleuthing than romance, but the relationship between Somers and Hazard is beautifully complicated, and worth the read!

This is the first novel I have read by Joy Ohagwu and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The suspense kept me turning pages and the romance added to the story line. I liked the main characters Ruby and Robert and felt that I got to know them as the story unfolded.The only thing I didn't like was how long it took for the romance part to wrap up after the suspense was over. Ruby drug her feet so long that I wanted to shake her and tell her to just admit how she was feeling. The ending was worth it though when it finally arrived.Sex - noneLanguage - I thought one character used Jesus's name in vain near the beginning of the story but turns out it really was a prayer to Jesus.Violence - Several deaths take place but no graphic details, a couple drops of blood are all that is mentioned. Characters are in danger throughout most of the book from a heartless bad guy.Religion - characters pray, one character experiences salvation, Jesus described as best friend, God given credit for rescuing characters from dangerous situations

The story had a vaguely dystopian flavor at the beginning and seems to be set "almost" in the present day. The highlight for me was the beautiful description of salvation--I've never read anything like it in a novel!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.When I write a review, I don't try to briefly describe the story because that's the job of the cover. Instead I try to tell you how I was affected by the story.This book grabbed my interest and several times I re-read entire chapters because there were unexpected twists in the story that I wanted to remember. I really liked the characters because they had known each other for such a long time and yet were still able to surprise each other. I made the mistake of trying to read this story at a very busy time and found myself upset when I had to stop reading because of obligations and then having my mind wander back to wondering where the story line was headed from my stopping place. I recommend that you do yourself a favor and read this story with as few breaks as possible - this book is worth that extra effort. I sincerely hope that you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Ruby on the other hand was stuck in the friend zone. It took murder, being framed and in mortal danger, and having only Robert to rely on for her to realize she might love him back. As a crazy man tries to kill them both because they know the truth about The New Rulebook Ruby finally realizes just what she has to lose.The emotions of the characters in the story are well delivered and discused. Emotions that led our two main characters to find a higher power to guide their life. It appears big girls DO cry, big boys too.I was so glad to see how the trauma Robert and Rudy experienced was dealt with compassion rather than ridicule and censure.Great first story for the series. Now on to book two.

Red: The New Rulebook Series#1 by Joy Ohagwu -- I am always looking for Christian authors who write suspense/mystery/romance books. I really wasn't sure about this book when I first ran across it. The title really threw me. I read the reviews, and because it has a price tag of $00.00. I decided to give it a try. So glad I did. It kept my interest from page 1 and the book is full of action with the right dose of romance. Red (Ruby) is inadvertently drawn into a life/death situation with her life-long friend, Robert - a police detective - trying to help her. They make an amazing team. To me, they are somewhat reminiscent of Nick and Nora of The Thin Man series. Although this is a series book, it is also a stand-alone book. I have not read the others in this series, yet, but have purchased them. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for clean, Christian (but not preachy) suspense.

Like the TV show, Person of Interest, or the movie, Minority Report, a company has developed an advanced system of surveillance so they can identify possible criminals before they commit a crime and sell this system to law enforcement agencies all over the country and beyond. They are missing the last 10% of the program, which they have to have before the public release. Ruby, who runs a delivery service, runs afoul of the evil masterminds when she meets a woman to pick up a delivery package. To her shock, the woman is killed by a sniper just after she hands over the package, and Ruby has to run for her life. She turns to her friend Robert, a detective, for help. She discovers that he has become a Christian since she last saw him. He encourages her to believe and call upon Jesus when she needs help, which she does and receives inspiration. Eventually they are kidnapped and threatened with death, but the good guys triumph in the end. I was a little irritated by the small but repeated English mistakes like missing articles (a, an, the) and the non- word alright. It's still not a word no matter how many times people use it. The missing articles made me wonder if the author grew up speaking something other than English. Overall the mistakes never made the story unclear.

This book is simply great and exquisitely written. Thought provoking and full of suspense. Obviously small enough for lazy readers like me!! Looking forward to more books from Joy. Thank you for this master piece!!
