I don't typically leave reviews, so here goes:For 10 months I have been having an allergic reaction to something...??? My doctor could not figure out what. I did the whole steroid thing, then, a Chinese Herbalist, which did help some. But, I still could not find what I was allergic to. I was going to go to an allergist but they said that it may or may not find the allergy that I'm allergic to. My quote was $300 for the first office visit and $1200 for the allergy test. If they felt certain that they would find the allergy it would be worth that amount of money to me. The allergy was causing a horible rash around my mouth and eyes. Well, in desperation, trying to learn about muscle testing I happened upon this book on Amazon.I received the book and finished reading it the first day. I normally read a book like this maybe one chapter a day or week... I do enjoy learning about how our bodies work. However, with this book I knew that I had finally found the answer to my allergy search.I learned what allergy I had, why my body had developed the allergy and the appropriate antedote to correct the allergy. Within the first day I noticed a difference. Within 3 days I was a different person. I am feeling much better and am on my way to recovery. I know this won't be a "miracle cure." But, at least now, I have hope to be well again. I cannot tell you how much this book has affected my life. If you are fighting an unknown allergy then take the time to read this book. If I had not had an allergy I would still find this book VERY interesting.He goes into great depth about common ailments (high blood pressure, arthritis, infertility, gout, anemia, toxemia, obesity, etc.) and how to correct them. The book's subjects are a little broken up, but I simply got a highlighter with stickies and marked the pages that applied to me. This can be a little frustrating, but the benefits FAR outweigh the lack of subject organization.There are detailed hand-drawn pictures of how to do muscle testing. For the most part, they were very easy to follow. He describes how to muscle test for allergies, lack of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. He also tells you how to pick out the right supplement for you (no allergic reaction.) He decribes how to get the vitamins, minerals and amino acids out of food sources, herbs, vitamins & homeopothy. He also covers gems, etc. I personally skipped that chapter, but the other stuff was incredible.I have recommended this book to several people already! I hope you find it as incredible as I have.Update on 2/8/2012: After 1 1/2 years of using this book I am still referring to it. I have since decided to take a professional herbalism course. I am able to use some of the information from this book to add to my course books; for instance: if I have a headache behind my right eye I can juice a carrot and celery and my headache will go away. I promise this works better than Ibuprofen. You must try it to believe it. I wouldn't have believed it prior to being in such bad physical shape. I am now a believer. And, I am not a tree-hugger or totally crunchy or the granola type. I promise.Also, for those that have made comments about how does Muscle Testing work: We home school. During science one day we were watching Aurora Lipper's video science (she was truly a NASA rocket scientist) was explaining that everything has a positive and negative energy. She had a glass of water in her hand. She said "Even this glass of water has a positive and negative energy. There is a push and a pull to our bodies that we don't even recognize." I exclaimed "That is the best description I have heard to explain how muscle testing works." Our bodies recognize the energy - even though we are not even aware that they are.

O.K. What I absolutely feel compelled to share with you is this: RUN (don't walk!) to the closest website or bookstore and buy yourself a copy of "The Ultimate Healing System" by Donald Lepore, N.D. I am only 50 pages into this book and am COMPLETELY floored with the AMAZING amount and quality of information on healing all kinds of allergies and dis-eases with minerals, amino acids, and vitamins. He provides you with complete instructions on Advanced Muscle Testing, what symptoms wouldlook like in deficiency state, what the vit. or mineral does in the body, what anti-aging properties it may have,what fat dissolving properties it has,what co-factor nutrients are required to get the best results, what exposures or conditions will deplete the nutrient, etc. etc. And that is just the beginning of a 392 page book on health issues and nutrition!Heck, I had never even HEARD of Vitamin T before, but he says it will help anemia, hemophilia and improve a fading memory! And I already took several nutrition courses and his info. is WAAAAAY beyond their levels!!!Yes, I used to think that Muscle Test Reponse was a "twilight zone" method of diagnosing deficiencies, until I discovered it worked wonderfully for self-diagnosis. Dr. Lepore makes it easy to figure outwhat deficiencies you are up against and how to fix them!Honestly, for the cheap price it costs, this book is my No. 1 favorite book on Nutrition I have ever run across. Thank God for Trinity College of Natural Health and their Certified Nutritional Counseling coursework! Now, after all these years, I'm FINALLY getting answers to some of the most thorny health problems I and loved ones have faced. :-) At last, Dr. Lepore, you have introduced me to the power to heal on the deepest level! I paid a lot of money for a NEW book. This book is NOT new. The first chapter is full of blue highlighter and the cover is peeling.

Great book but a tad outdated. I think it was written in the 80's. Still very useful and way better than pharmaceuticals in some cases.

Very informative and helpful. If you don't have access to good nutritionists, read this.

This book has refreshed my previous knowledge of this type of healing. It also has more information about nutrition that is valuable. I would recommend it to others who have lost faith in the conventional health system, as long as they know how to use it logically.

This is a very large book and is high on my list of monographs by contemporary traditional architectural firms.First, the book. It is exceptionally large with excellent graphics - color photographs and drawings, usually with only the first floor plan accompanied by other drawings. The text is helpful. The coverage is of apparently every commission this firm has undertaken beginning with a truly underwhelming garage/artist's studio and ending with a large multi-purpose building for a private school. In between there are many residential commissions, most with generous budgets. As a result, they are impressive.Second, the firm. The firm works in Texas and nearby states and has no stylistic preferences. It is eclectic in the traditional sense of the word, blending styles to achieve a harmonious result. They are fluent in a wide variety of stylistic languages and the results are lovely. Their forte seems to be Traditional Classical styles, The Collegiate Gothic multi-purpose building for the private school was surprisingly subdued.If one is interested in current eclectic residential architecture then I highly recommend this book.

The monograph's consistency of formatting, combined with the quality work within, make it a great reference for traditional-minded design professionals while the thoughtful introduction by Stephen Fox would make this worthwhile for a Texas history buff as well. The inclusion of detailed plans, illustrating site design and room configuration, fleshes out the large scale photography and written description to paint a complete picture of the numerous projects. An excellent addition to any personal library.

As an avid collector of architectural monographs from the great residential design firms of the early 1900's through WWII purchases like this are always a risk. Well I did take the risk and added this book to my "humble" collection and can only say how pleased I am. Excellent photos, floor plans and great text do justice to this beautiful publication and the architectural firm chronicled. Well worth the investment and a great holiday gift for me this year.

This book is not for the fainthearted! I thought it was going to be about quirky bathrooms, and a lot of it is. But there’s a lot more going on, and a lot of variety to the stories. I did laugh out loud (like when the author doesn’t discover the problem with the urinal until it’s too late!), but at times I was almost afraid of what was next. The story in the West Bank was crazy and had me worried the author was about to get in over his head! The author’s style is so descriptive, you really feel like you’re there - but you’re usually glad he’s the one who is instead of you!

You will laugh, you will cry, you will either want to update your passport or just snuggle in for more reading time, depending on your level of tolerance for adventure! But you will not regret a moment spent with these wonderful tales. Whether reading about countries I know or those I have yet to explore, I felt as if I was entering an unpredictable world. I am anxiously awaiting more stories from this author!

Porcelain Travels, was fantastic! Stories that are full of adventure and sometimes harrowing tales of bathroom accommodations that are definitely outside the norm. We can all relate to toilets, tubs and showers and we have all had our “moments” but these stories take the ultimate cake – wow - yikes – and they are all true! A must read; I was not able to put in down. I started each story with the thought of “I wonder what’s going to happen this time”. During my read I laughed out loud “is this for real?”. And, I finished each story with “what kind of crazy situation is this” or “OMG”. Looking forward to more books by Matthew Felix.

Let’s face it—- we’ve all had “issues” while traveling to foreign lands and toilets. Somehow Matthew’s stories made me cringe and laugh at the same time, remembering my own near misses and oh-so-laughable moments. Not all the stories revolve around the “throne,” but they all demonstrate Matthew’s keen wit and knack for writing about the loo, the powder room, les toilettes, or whatever you call it. A perfect addition to your own home “library.”

Travel the globe with hilarious stops along the way, where Matthew Felix’ delicious prose delineates bizarre aspects of life and human interactions usually overlooked. A page turner, Porcelain Travels will make you miss your bedtime, appointments, work schedule. Each tale is a yummy, giggles-invoking gem. Perfect gift for the powder room or privy.

After reading the first chapter, I laughed till I cried! I like to travel "deep" and really experience the local cultures, but not as "deep" as the author. Kudos for his willingness to seek new adventures and then WRITE about them!!! Fun and enlightening read...keep on traveling! I look forward to more from this author. (I am SLB not Rick F.)

I love this book. Laugh out loud funny! We’ve all had moments on the porcelain throne that we keep to ourselves. Matthew dares to share to hilarious results. Buy it. Read it. Great gift book. Stories pop back into my head over and over and I laugh yet again! Quite a ride!!

A travel book, in the sense that most of the stories take place overseas. But really more about the highly entertaining and often very funny interactions the author has with people and his environment. I especially enjoyed the longer stories, which were almost like collections within the collection. Highly recommend.

This edition is almost certainly an older English translation of CAPITAL (translators Moore and Aveling) and NOT the more recent, superior translation by Ben Fowkes, published by Penguin Books. Evidently Amazon doesn't now offer that newer translation for sale, except in the Kindle edition. (You'll notice that nowhere on the copyright page of this edition does it even mention the translators.) The old, Moore and Aveling translation is good as far as it goes, but it is almost certainly in the public domain now. The fly by night publisher of the $9.00 paperback here offered for sale must be raking in the profits, since it has 'acquired' the rights for this edition of CAPITAL for nothing! (If you read the fine print at the bottom of the publisher's blurb by scrolling down to the bottom of the blurb you'll notice that it warns you that the blurb refers to an "alternate" paperback edition of the book, NOT the Penguin edition that IS for sale as a Kindle book. If I were you, I'd consider buying the Kindle book (the price isn't too bad) but WAIT for Amazon the get access again to the Penguin, Ben Fowkes translation in order to buy a bound copy..

I can't imagine taking the full measure of this volume, much less the two volumes which follow, without the sustained help of explanatory material such as that provided by David Harvey, a veteran American academician who takes Marx very seriously indeed.Without question, even for exceptionally well informed and intellectually capable readers, this book is a bear. If you invest the substantialamount of time and prodigious effort needed to master it, you will definitely come to understand why Marxists become Marxists, and you may very well become one yourself. At the very least, you'll see the world differently, and you'll have a firmer grasp on the character of our contemporary world, not just its economic make-up, but in a socially expansive way. It's hard to imagine anyone reading the book carefully and with a modicum of understanding and coming away with the judgment that this is merely an ideologically motivated, long-winded exercise in willful self-deception and the deception of others. If you encounter someone who characterized Marx as a willfully wrong-headed ideologue, you may safely assume that you're dealing with someone who has not read Capital.Capital Volume 1 is, in fact, a richly informative and very difficult piece of world-class research. I imagine that most readers who take its full measure will come back to it again and again. I can't imagine doing justice to Capital Volume 1 without putting forth the kind of effort that makes for the creation of a life-long connection. Marx himself claims to have sacrificed his health, happiness, and family to writing the book. This has the pathetic sound of self-pitying exaggeration. But given what I know of Marx and the necessarily prodigious demands of the kind of work he produced, I'm sure he's being dispassionately truthful.You may be disappointed to find that Capital is much less polemical than it is rigorously analytical. That was my first response. For the long term, however, I realized the book is a keeper, and I acknowledged that I'd have to look elsewhere for a call-to-arms that is not also embedded in massive learning. It's true, of course that Marx was an active professional revolutionary, but he was also a world-class scholar with a prodigiously cultivated mind. Reading Marx makes me want to spend a year or two in the library of the British Museum, where Marx did his best scholarship.Marx and Charles Darwin exchanged fairly frequent correspondence. Everyone knows that Darwin transformed our understanding of the world and our place in it. Much the same is true of Marx's contribution to human knowledge. It's interesting to acknowledge that social and religious conservatism were barriers to the rightful dissemination of both. That Marx maintained an ongoing relationship with others of undeniable genius, such as Darwin, bespeaks Marx's own intellectual prowess and reflects his status as a wonderfully original thinker. In his own authentic way, Marx was at least as much a brilliant scientist as Darwin. Darwin changed the way we thought about ourselves, but Marx changed the way we live.

It is hard to write a small review. I can't put 100 pages of notes on this book. It is a book to help anyone understand how capital works. Volume two is more about the circulation process. Please read it and don't quit after chapter 3. It is a long book and it is somewhat complicated. This review is not about the contents of this book, but rather the quality of this particular version I stupidly bought. I mean, it's laid out like someone just copy and pasted the text, printed and bound it as cheaply as possible. There is no copy right information or publisher listed anywhere, no table of contents, and it's overall just awkwardly laid out. The cherry on top is that I didn't even receive the complete book, it just abruptly stops mid sentence and the last few sections are missing completely. Absolute garbage, please don't buy this version. Amazon needs to have a little bit of quality control with the products they sling because this isn't even a legitimate publication.
