This is by far the best presentation of organic chemistry I have ever read. Smith has a real talent for taking challenging concepts and making them understandable before gradually, and almost without one noticing, increasing their depth and scope. Her end of chapter problems are well thought out and often entertaining. Each chapter begins with the introduction of a fascinating topic which is then expanded upon in the body of the chapter. I recommend the solutions manual to this text as well.

This book really breaks down Ochem! If you need a supplemental book this is the go to!!!

Bought for my o-chem class, and it explains most things well but does have some mistakes in it. Overall this book is worth it and it is helpful to buy the solution manual with it. Amazon had the best price- buy it used if you can because you can save a lot of $$$!

The book came in two days, that was with the expedited shipping which was only $2 more than standard. It's in excellent condition. The same book at my local store was going to be $200.00. I paid only $45. Will definitely buy from Book Holders again.

Chapter I Language and Literature Reading, Writing, and Your Fourth Grader: A Note to Parents In this chapter, you and your child will learn to appreciate the magic of words, travel to other worlds without leaving the room, and understand how words work together to create meaning. This chapter presents a rich and varied selection of literature, including poems and stories. You will also read brief discussions of grammar and writing and explanations of common sayings and phrases. By the end of fourth grade, students should be able to engage in the mental process of turning letters into sounds automatically. This year, they will focus more on meaning as they read, extending their vocabulary and understanding of the texts. Asking questions is a good way to draw your children into a story. Here are a few that work well: “What do you think is going to happen next?” “How might the story have turned out differently if . . . ?” “What did you hear/read that makes you believe that . . . ?” “What does the author mean by the statement . . . ?” “How is this story similar to . . . ?” You might also ask your child to retell the story. You can even encourage your child to change events or characters: this is a rich tradition of storytelling and explains why there are so many versions of traditional stories. You may also encourage your child to write and illustrate her own stories. Some children may be interested in beginning to keep a journal or writing letters to friends or relatives—these are both fine ways for children to cultivate their writing skills. Another way to build vocabulary and foster language skills is by playing word games such as Scrabble, Boggle, or hangman and doing crossword puzzles. You can download many of these popular word games on tablet devices and computers. Experts say our children already know more about grammar than we can ever teach them. But standard written language does have special characteristics that children need to learn. The treatment of grammar and language conventions in this book is an overview. It needs to be supplemented and rounded out by giving your child opportunities to read and write and to discuss reading and writing in connection with grammar and spelling. At school, children should be working on vocabulary and spelling in the fourth grade. They should enjoy a rich diet of fiction, poetry, drama, biography, and nonfiction. They should be involved in the writing process, inventing topics, discovering ideas in early drafts, and revising toward “publication” of polished final drafts—all with encouragement and guidance along the way. They should practice writing in many modes, including stories, poetry, journal entries, formal reports, dialogues, and descriptions. For some children, the section on sayings and phrases may not be needed; they will have picked up these sayings by hearing them in everyday speech. But this section will be useful for children from homes where American English is not spoken. For additional resources to use in conjunction with this section, visit the Core Knowledge Foundation’s website at www.coreknowledge.org. Literature Introduction This selection of poetry, stories, and myths can, in most cases, be read independently by fourth graders. We hope you’ll take this as a starting point in your search for more literature for your child to read and enjoy. We have included both poetry and prose. The best way to help children appreciate the spirit of poetry is to read it aloud to them and encourage them to speak it aloud so that they can experience the music in the words. Until children take pleasure in the sound of poetry, there is little reason to analyze it technically. Most of the stories in this book are either excerpts from longer works or abridged versions of those works. If a child enjoys a particular story, he should be encouraged to read a longer version. Several of the novels excerpted here are available in child-friendly versions as part of the Core Knowledge Foundation’s Core Classics series, available for purchase through the foundation’s website, www.coreknowledge.org. This book continues the effort, begun in previous books, to allow you to coordinate readings about literature and other subjects, including history, visual arts, music, and science. These stories and poems also give you the opportunity to discuss the value of virtues, such as friendship, courage, and honesty, with your child. I bought this book because, first of all, as my daughter can tell you, they totally repossessed my cool card the day she was born. Stuck it in the shredder...that thing is gone! They may, and I repeat may, reissue me a new one when she's 30. Until then, I'm super uncool, and I'm the mom who buys this kind of book to have my kiddo read when I think she might not have the dreadful stomach ache she's claiming requires a day off from school. Yep, super uncool. But, given she was running around and asking for junk food 4 hours into the day, I rest my case.So I bought this one during the school year, and I used it for the above, and I'm also having her spend a few minutes a day reading during the summer in the areas she says she wasn't sure she got as much out of at school. I have purchased one of these every year since she was in kindergarten, and I find that they do a good job of explaining things and covering relevant topics. I have asked her how she feels about the writing in them and she says it's written in a way she enjoys and finds it easier to want to keep reading then some of the stuff she gets at school. The other day she actually protested when I asked for my kindle back because she'd put in her time for the day. She wanted to keep reading the geology section.So I think these are a useful and well written "make sure your bases are covered" book series. And I'm getting her one for fifth grade too. Because I'm still going to be uncool by the time fall rolls around too.

We'll be using this in our homeschooling for fourth grade.

Great information for parents to be on track. This book does not cover everything in the fourth grade standards but no book will. It does offer great concepts and areas to focus on to keep your child on track.

Book is working good, my son is able to catch up using it since he was in a Spanish school in Ecuador so I had to get something to start his homeschooling and help in getting him comfy in learning in English.

My father and I used to do these puzzles together each week. We waited eagerly for the new TV Guide to arrive in the mail and the puzzle was the first thing we did. He was thrilled to receive this as a Christmas gift.

I just completed this book after two years. I only use it to kill time while on the porcelain convenience.

this is your typical tv crossword book from a long ago era, so if you're into old movies, old sitcoms, etc. then this is definitely for you. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.

I have just completed this very helpful book by Mark Ballenger titled "Redeemed Like David: How to Overcome Sexual Temptation". It is a very carefully written study through Psalm 51 in regards to sexual temptation. After reading this book, the study can be very helpful when it comes to overcoming all sin that hinders one's walk with God. The author has done a very worthwhile and well thought out task when it comes at getting the study correct when it comes to this Psalm. It is a very good read that is hard to put down. It's not too technical and easy to understand which makes it a book that I believe all christians should have in their library. When it comes to counseling others, I will definitely use this book as a reference tool. It's that good. There's no doubt in my mind that I was going to give it 5 stars. It deserves it!

Sitting down with Mark Ballenger's book is like sitting down with a caring mentor. The sort that desperately wants to see you succeed, but at the same time isn't willing to bend the rules to see you get there. Two themes run through this book, Ballenger's love of Christ, and his love of people. This book oozes compassion. Yet the author is very clear about the dangers of sexual sin to both our earthly, and eternal lives.I found this book to have a very readable almost conversational style. Throughout the book you feel as if Ballenger is talking to you instead of writing to you. This is much rarer than you would think. The discussion questions are unusually well thought out. The leader's guide includes Ballenger's answers to each question as a starting point for discussion. These two aspects make this an excellent book for small group or classroom study. This book is very balanced, and well documented with scripture. If you are looking to better understand the issue of sexual sin in our sex crazed popular culture and modern world, this is a great book to start with.

I appreciated Mark's honesty. He really brought scripture to my attention about the topic of sexual sin that ive never been told before or would gather on my own spiritual knowledge.Psalms 51 means so much more to me now.Great job Mark! God bless.

mark's book is excellent it is easy to read mark has a you tube channel which I subscribed and his channel is excellent I would recommend this book for teenagers and adults.

What an amazing book! It really helped me in my personal fight against sexual immorality. It gave me a new perspective on salvation the gospel and God’s unrelenting grace. The entire chapter of psalms 51 was analyzed with great wisdom ( along with some humor here and there); it’s really encouraging for those like myself that wish to immitate the faith of David and be redeemed from our great sins like he was.
