There aren't as many recipes as expected (yes, I did "look inside" before I bought it). It's filled with nice photos but each step has a photo which makes it difficult to follow a recipe without flipping several pages. Fortunately, I use the mise en place method of cooking so didn't need to flip pages that often, but when I did it bothered me because it's obvious the ingredients and instructions could have been put on a single page with room for some of the photos.Also, if you are a believer in the ranch (faux) story of Ree's daily life you'll enjoy the book as nearly every page has either a cute photo or a story of some kind. All in all, this plus the bazillion photos make it a thick cookbook with more non-recipe stuff than actual recipes.I'd suggest grabbing the recipes from her blog since most of them are there. The few recipes I've tried thus far have been very good.
I don't like to cook or I should say I didn't like to cook until I began watching Pioneer Woman. Lee Drummond is amazing and I am buying her cookbooks and I am beginning to enjoy cooking for once in my life thanks to her. Her recipes are so easy and so good!
Been wanting thus book forever . Finally ordered it and was so happy to get it . First off I know it's a simple thing but I like the thickness of the pages . Lots of pictures and easy to follow directions. I have made several recipes from the boom and an happy . In a simple cook , I find that you can substitute a lot of her ingredients . She tends to use things I don't keep in my pantry . Pictures enhance the cooking process . I'm very happy . I'd like to see her write a dessert book !

Two years and 40 lbs later, she is still using the recipes in this book to whip up delectable treats for lunch and dinner.I didn't count on my wife getting excited about a cook book, but she reads Ree Drummond's blog and watches her show on the TV, so I figured this might be acceptable as a gift. I underestimated the enthusiasm from a Pioneer Woman when she receives one of these cook books. The next day she was trying out the recipes in this book and I've been fat and happy ever since. Every thing she's made out of this book has been so good it's made my leg wiggle, and the best part is my wife loves cooking from it!Pros:- Awesome guide for yummy dishes- Pioneer Woman fans seem excited to use itCons:- It can make you fat. The food is so good it's hard to eat in moderation.- Increased cholesterol.
I was looking for a cake recipe for Cinco de Mayo and came across her blog. I have never seen her show or really followed her before then, but I am a fan now! I made that cake and it was a hit! It is a sponge cake soaked in a three milk liquid and topped with whipped cream. DELISH! I had to own the recipe, so I bought the book. We have made several meals out of the book and all of them are easy to make and DELISH. The step-by-step photos are great. It helps my 12-year old son follow the recipe now that he is keen on learning how to cook. On his queue to cook are the "Spicy Dr. Pepper Pulled-Pork," the brisket, wings, enchiladas, and fried tacos. I want to make the strawberry shortcake, "Carnitas pizza", "Pork Chops with Apple and Grits," and the "Curried Chicken Pasta Salad." Aside from the recipes, the cover, photos and scrapbook look really appeals to me (my four-year old loves the dogs and is always flipping thru to find them :). It isn't frou-frou hard to make food. It is simple, homey, and delicious food made with ingredients you can find on your regular grocery store trip. It is a good addition to my cookbook shelf.
Great cookbook. I love the step by step picture instructions it really keeps things simple and keeps you from getting lost in wordy directions. Absolutely recommend for someone just getting their feet wet with cooking. Its relatively simple to substitute healthier ingredients in to these recipes as well. For example, beown rice instead of white, sweet potato instead of white, etc. Worth the spend.
Well, its the Pioneer woman what can I say??? Everything of hers, I have liked. Well, except the DR. Pepper pulled pork but other than that I have enjoyed everything. I have been a fan of hers for quite some time. This is my first cookbook and I was kind of disappointed cause I paid for it when most of them are on Pinterest or her website. But, it is a nice cookbook. She is great for a beginner with all the pictures. I love how she involves her family. She is the only blog I visit regularly and my "go to" for recipes if I am cooking for a crowd. That way, I can blame it on Ree rather than me take the blame :)
So I've tried several recipes in this super awesome cookbook and have yet to be disappointed! Not only are the recipes easy to follow, but are so delicious! Also the stories and pictures which Ree includes just makes this so extra special! Nothing but positive things to say for Ree Drummond's cookbook!
I love her books. She is an awesome Momma and Cook. I watch her show as much as I can. You want some good home cooking look no further she can give you all the directions that you need. Love the illustrations. So well written, love her books. I can’t wait to get them all when I can. I have tried a many of her recipes from this book and they are a hit with the family.
