About the Author

Susan Fawcett is the author of two market-leading college composition textbooks: Evergreen: A Guide to Writing (11th Edition) and Grassroots: The Writer's Workbook (12th Edition). Both texts have won the peer-juried McGuffey Award for sustained excellence, presented by the Text & Academic Authors Association. So great to finally be able to read this on my Kindle. John would stop by Cesco Medical and give us bits and pieces of what he was working on and my late dad and I were so intrigued and could not wait till this all came together. The years of research and travel were well spent. We started hearing the story about 12 years ago. This book is well written and the timing is perfect. John is a good friend and we all wish him the best. His Dad was a true American Hero, didn't have to talk about how intelligent he was, he just did what he was asked to do to protect the USA.

Wallace Clauson was a math savant who was discovered and recruited into the science world during WW2 and helped in the development of radar and atomic weaponry. Having the ability to calculate complex equations he also worked in the formulations of the first computers. Sworn to secrecy, his whole life was undercover and his family had no idea what he really did. They thought he was an IBM salesman like he told them. In the last years of his life he finally tells his story to his son who has now very adeptly told his father's story and has also given a great review of our country's involvement in the development of atomic weaponry and all the nuances involved during the time of the Cold War. This book is not only a great story of one man's 40-year journey in the belly of the beast (covert military operations) but gives an excellent overview of our country's involvement in politics and near-misses during the time that Russia was threatening nuclear war. What was also surprising is that, as in many heated political discussions, there was so much miscommunication on many levels that could have caused the biggest catastrophe in the world but at the last minute were diverted. Great story of a man who due to his top-secret work could not be openly awarded but his son has posthumously done the job. This book is a MUST if you want to learn more about the beginnings of the atomic weapon race and the impact of the Cold War.

We'll never know the whole story of the Cold War. To have a spotlight shown on events that are now vague memories makes for a riveting page turner. Who knew? What else don't we know? Will this book cause others to tell their stories? I can hardly wait.

What a wonderful story; how this man was able to keep his work so secret shows his commitment not only to his country but to the safe keeping of his family. What an amazing story of an amazing man who gave his entire life to keep this country safe; we could all learn from his dedication and love of country.

A great and honest read. As a former Air Force fighter pilot who was involved in the implemention of USAFE's nuclear deterrent, I can neither confirm nor deny any of the stories in John's book. However, every fact, story and timeline in the book can be independently verified and it all makes sense during the time of the Cold War. Regardless of whether or not the stories are completely accurate or even totally verifiable, the book draws the reader into the time of the Cold War and into the minds, the lives and the families of the engineers and scientists who fought it. A fascinating book that both honors and is a tribute to the author's father, Wallace Clauson. Well done, John, well done!

Really interesting story about my “Uncle Wally”! My Mom and Wally’s wife were cousins and great friends who grew up on neighboring farms in Iowa. I kept thinking throughout my reading that I wish my Dad was alive to hear this story!!! He would have been so intrigued to hear this about his friend!! Fascinating story from an insider’s point of view on the development of the nuclear program.

What a fascinating read!!! It was amazing to learn about Wallace Clauson’s double life. His brilliance was such a major contribution to our technology and military defense. I began working for IBM in the 70’s, and grew up in San Jose at the same time the Clauson’s lived there, so it was fun reading about the secrecies and references that were revealed in the book.Missleman would make an outstanding movie!!!

Really loved reading this book, amazing story about family, love, trust, history and the cold war! Loved the lengths a man goes to that keeps his family safe during trying times, a different world back then! Interesting read. Lyda Cordova Larsen

I bought this product entirely for the map. The map is good. The rest is ok, but the GM screen is missing a few key tables. The adventure is decent but doesn't really tie into any of the other published adventures.

This typical RPG accessory contains a pad of character record sheets; a copy of the character generation scheme (with tables); a combat action summary; a magic summary (arcane and divine-no dark- lores) with name, casting time and number of spells; and a grimoire form for 16 spells. There is also an extensive name generating table for all four races, and "inspirational Character Portraits"-read line drawings of old world folk. None of these are necessary, of course:(one could easily make up one's own tables) but they are convenient and well done. And the pack does add to the atmosphere of the game. I might have added a few more grimoire pages. The names are fun.

The product isn't worth it's money. 14 pages of adventure, quite nice, but nothing really decent. 4 pregenerated pc's take 2 pages, followed by 8 pages of typical buildings (same as in the old edition), 1 npc and 1 combat roster. The remaining 5 pages are equipment (4) and dark magic summaries. The map is only letter format and black/white. The realm bounderies on it are the only new stuff on the map. The screen is not fully 4 pages filled with chaos tables, weapons, combat and critical hit tables. So all in all nothing worth 15$, or now 10$ if you would ask me. 3 Stars but only because of the adventure..

This supplement contains the GM screen (very usefull) and a bunch of material that seems to be reprinted from the original version of this game from oh so long ago. So if you don't have the old main book, this is new material as well.
