I was hoping this book would be good when I first received it, and it has only surpassed my expectations.The art is great, and the contents are terrific. Each letter of the alphabet contains both a short, easily quipped line to read / recite, as well as a long, detailed explanation of the history of that event for those curious minds who might want to learn more. Of course, there is also accompanying art, which is very nice.I don't think this is for the very little kids, but any young learner who is also interested in baseball (and specifically the Red Sox) would likely very much appreciate this book. I know this would have kept me very entertained as a little one.I highly recommend this book - especially as a gift for a Red Sox fan to be - and have since gone out and purchased two other copies for friends with children who are on their way to joining Red Sox Nation.Definitely a five star product in my book!

Once again, another Red Sox stocking stuffer put away in a carton until Christmas time. I did peek through this book and it was written and illustrated beautifully. Just love it and the little boy who receives this from Santa Claus will love it too.

My husband is a big Red Sox fan so I bought this book as a gift from our daughter, who's a newborn. I liked that you could read it on multiple levels - just the ABC's when she's little, or read the info on the sides for more in depth info when she's older.

Bought this for the library I am building in Livingstone Zambia . It is a simple, wonderful way for the girls at St. Mary's Private school to understand the people, especially young women, in this part of the world. An introduction for them that I am sure is meaningful.

The shipping was quick and the quality was better than I expected for a used book. The details said folded pages and those don't really bother me but the actual state of the book was great.

I have just received the book and have not yet had a chance to read it from cover to cover. I have a keen interest in the children of Afghanistan so I am sure this book will be welcomed in my library and I will enjoy the read.

Kids of Kabul includes the stories of a couple dozen kids from Afghanistan told in their own words. Each story begins with a little extra information that does a bit to clarify what the child is talking about (for example, why one child used to live in a jail along with her mom or why another young girl is in prison for running away from her abusive, elderly husband). The stories all have heartbreaking components, but are also extremely hopeful. Reading this book gives hope that the kids will be able to improve the future of Afghanistan.

I found this book both heartbreaking and inspiring. My daughter picked it up in our local school library. She was intrigued because she had previously met and become friends with a girl from Afghanistan, so wanted to know more about girls' lives there. She was stunned to realize that her friend is one of the subjects of this book and was so touched that she brought it home to share with us.Rather than meeting someone struggling to overcome her traumatic experiences, she had met an exceptional teen who continues to lean forward, determined to educate herself well so she can continue the advocacy work she has already begun on behalf of her sisters at home. Nilab is currently attempting to raise enough funds to cover the costs of a college education here in the US. To return to Afghanistan now would most certainly mean a marriage and the end of her education. From the author of the Breadwiner, Deborah Ellis,this captivating book is a must read for middle school and older. Ellis goes to back to Kabul and interviews children from the area. The interviews are not for the fainthearted.The children talk about being orphans, forced into marriages, drug abuse and starvation. Even with everything that has happened to them they still are optimistic about their futures.

Katz) handed the book over to the CIA before publication is anyone's guess, unless of course Langley subsidized publication (Operation Mockingbird anyone)?And yet it's a shame, because the book attempts to cover a subject that has went woefully uncovered, in my opinion, since the events themselves transpired: the kidnapping and murder of CIA station chief William F. Buckley in the treacherous urban battlefield that was Beirut in the 1980's.The subject has been broached in at least one of former (if there is such a thing) CIA operative Robert Baer's excellent books on the subject matter of clandestine warfare, and how I do wish Baer himself and taken up the mantle, because it's a story worth telling. A story of one brave man's abduction and torture by Hezbollah, and of how he was hung out to dry by his own government. Baer, I believe, mentions the lads on the ground knew where their chief was being held, but were stopped by the powers that be from attempting any sort of rescue.The book is not only unreadable because it is heavily redacted, it is also unreadable because of the sycophantic slabbering of the authors, as they drool over fellow CIA stooges David Ignatius and Thomas Friedman. maybe next time they could take a leaf from the excellent book written by Ronen Bergman, Rise and Kill First, a book about past and present covert warfare by the Mossad, and which Bergamn was threatened on several occasions, with his life, from publishing because he'd written it under deep cover, unlike the two previously mentioned stooges who penned this tome.

This is a well written book that I really enjoyed. Some of the things that were written about I remember, some I don't. So it was great to have the story written to remind me of the people that have given their life for our country and those who are still working for our country.

Having lived in Beirut in the 70's as a State Department dependent, this book brought back many memories of what was a very beautiful city when we arrived (72) and the beginning of the end when we left (75). The material in the book seemed well researched, but it is interesting if you read wikipedia on both William Buckley and William Higgins, there are some differences between those accounts and this book. Guess that is the nature of Intelligence gathering and analysis, and what to believe. Highly recommend the book.

An amazing backstory. Finally the truth comes out and it is written by a person that is apolitical, his only 'axe to grind' is the terrorists. An exciting presentation of the actual story. I highly recommend his other books.

An accurate and highly engaging book depicting some most unfortunate episodes in our foreign policy. Those who serve our nation are truly unsung heroes who deserve our heartfelt thanks.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book. This was one of the most intense, riveting stories I have read in a very long time. Brooks lost his wife who meant the world to him only to find Josie in a squalor and took her with him. Her sister, Helena was making herself crazy wondering where her stepsister was and left her job and went back home to find her. When she did, Josie was with Brooks, Helena was angry but also confused but Brooks knew exactly what he was doing. Would Helena stay with Brooks and Josie or go back to her old job????

At first I really didn't like the author, I mean, how could she be so cruel to Brooks by killing Esther, it seemed as though she didn't like them very much, for one Esther couldn't get pregnant and then she gives her an illness, then she has her murdered, and poor Brooks, we all know how he loved her and so it is only natural that he has so much hate and to have the local law enforcement not give a damn and find out who did it. But she redeemed herself when she had Helena come back into Brooks life, she had left the mountains to make something of herself and she became a cop, but she was asked to leave after making a complaint and shooting her partner. When she finds her little sister has been kidnapped by the Misfits, she goes back home only to find things are not what they seem and decides to help find out who killed Esther.There are a lot of secrets, twists and turns, rage, violence and passion, but also family and this will keep you on the edge of your seat as you turn each thrilling page, my only gripe is when Deja mentions Esther's brothers, she forget to name Micah, but other than that, I loved it.I know this is the last in the series, but wouldn't it be great if she could revisit and have a Misfits special with Brooks and Helena and a christening.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This story took me by surprise. I have not read any of the previous books in this series so I went in blind. Brooks is the president of the Mountain Misfits. He had his own book earlier in the series with his wife Esther but she was sadly killed out in this story. So Brooks gets a new love whom is a police officer and wants to help him solve his wife’s murder.Turns out they all went to school together, but Helena wasn’t part of their crowd. She grew in a trailer park with her father and sister whom a Brook kidnaps and refuses to give her back. When she goes for her sister she ends up staying and Brook n his grieving state is a mess, but they actually sort of develop a friendship and she wants to help him, she was fired from her old police job, but since she is back home she applies to work at their police office, hoping it gets her closer to who killed Esther.This story has heartbreak, drama, romance and some suspense. Honestly - I think that this story is the MC story of all of the MC stories!!!! It is really good, it keeps you on your toes while reading and it makes you want to read it from start to the end without a pause, even the famous bathroom breaks, you just want to keep reading... The story line is absolutely smashing, the characters are great be it the leading characters all the other ones or the biggest villain of them all, they are just great. I can of course only say for myself but I really liked this story and at the end of the day that must be the purpose of a book, to keep you interested so you finish the story you just started. My oh my - this one does that in flying colours!!!! I cannot give this one any less than all the five stars!I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Another great book to the series. The author saves the best for last bringing Brook's story. She brings tons of emotions to this story and takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride reading it. The characters are strong, well developed and are described perfectly. Her scenes are vividly detailed , bringing the story to life. She does a great job building the story,pulling you in and holding you there right to the end. I loved that all the Misfits family members are involved and want to help. Deja Voss has written a fantastic MC series featuring the Mountain Misfits. All of the books are well written and I loved all the characters. Ascension is Brooks' story. After the murder of his wife, Brooks is going through the motions of living until he saves Josie from her abusive father. Her sister, Helena returns home and Brooks finds new life with her and Josie as his new family. Loved the story and Brooks' emotional ride. Helena is back on the mountain after hearing that her sister was kidnapped by the Misfits but once here she finds out differently. She teams up with Brooks to find out who killed Esther.
