First of all, this is the funniest travel book I've ever read. Rather than giving straight up "best of" lists and "our author's pick," this author's opinion is interjected into every line, with humor. Although you might find his sense of humor quirky, you'll really feel like he's giving you an honest review. Beyond the book's personality, there is enough information about Santa Barbara to keep you busy for a year or more. Recommendations include all the usual: dining, accommodations, museums, shopping, outdoors, etc. But the selections are extensive and descriptions are thorough. The book also puts every element into historical context. In addition to using it as your travel guide, you could easily use this book as a textbook on Santa Barbara history and culture. And there's even a quiz at the end!
