This book what not what I expected. I had pre-ordered this back in January and was very excited for its arrival today. Any book with the word "Bible" in the title promises a comprehensiveness; with the references in both the title and in the description to Parkinson's Theatrum Botanicum, I was expecting more of Parkinson, more knowledge, and more insight. This book is a celebration of herbal arts in coffee table book form. The photos are gorgeous full color and full page. The layout is artistic and visually pleasing - with Parkinson's description and uses for an herb side by side with Bruton-Seal's modern information. Only 75 herbs are covered in the book with the emphasis on uses and recipes, not cultivation, so if you are looking for gardening tips look elsewhere. I gave it a 3 star rating because it is really well done for what it is, but it is more of a prayer book than a bible.I fully acknowledge that for books such as this one exposure in a bookstore is key. Had I seen this in person I would have leafed through it, thought "Hmm, that's a really nice looking book with some interesting information, but not what I was looking for" and kept going. If you are looking for a condensed version of Parkinson's take on 75 herbs with many lovely and colorful photos, then you will rate this 5 stars.
I too, am a little disappointed. I was hoping for a more comprehensive book much like John Parkinson's original. It doesn't cover near enough herbs. While the pictures and layout are lovely, I would have preferred more herbs and uses. With Bible in the name, I expected a huge amount of herbs covered, both poisonous and the safe to use. Seriously needed a poisonous section for those who need to recognize them to be safe. If you are looking for a really good book for uses of herbs and descriptions, I suggest looking elsewhere.

I have to agree with the other reviewers who stated that there is simply too little information in a book with the word Bible in the title. While I adore the layout and the information provided there simply is not enough of it.
As a history lover, I found this fascinating. It has each herb compared from John Parkinson ' day against modern times. Very interesting.
