I have live here for over 23 years an this book has all the information that I would love to share with newcomers. It's well informed and comprehensive as well as a fun read. They cover all the major aspects of daily life whether you are planning on being here for just a month to a lifetime. I am so glad they took the time to compile and share this great local info. It will help anyone who is considering the move and will definitely ease the challenges of transition. I loved reading their book and will share it with friends as well as use it as a resource for myself. This is a must buy.
We travel to CR yearly and I’ve contemplated buying a home there, expanding my business, or investing in a greater way. This book covers many of the common concerns, as well as some of the hinky laws and banking issues that make it difficult as a US citizen. I’m still on the fence, but have a better understanding than from what I’d obtained down there. Would love to take these folks to dinner in Playa Langosta; they have a great consulting opportunity with those of us baby boomers considering the plunge! Pura Vida!
A lot of good ideas....but the authors aren't good negotiators....they said to expect to pay about $85. a day for a rental car ... I left for Costa Ricatwo days after I got the book in the mail....and I got a car for $38.00 per day. I have a Capital One Venture card ( which is a card that coversphysical damage to the vehicle your renting ), so all I needed was the liability ( which by the way was the same card the Page's said they used ??).They will try to hit you with a huge damage deposit (like $5,000 !) I talked them down to $3,000. That's a deposit you get back a few days after renting.
Interesting read. I've visited Costa Rica (Tamarindo and Playa Flamingo) a few times but never thought of moving there. I've met a few American's that have made the same choice. I enjoyed learning what's it's like to be an expat in Costa Rica.
This is a good, quick read for anyone thinking of relocating or even visiting Costa Rica for an extended period of time. Although most of the “action†takes place around a small area of the country the book gives a good overview of what to expect when in CR.
I bought this book before taking a trip down to Costa Rica because if I move or don’t move there is a lot of very helpful information on how the country works and local options. We tried out the food suggestion and got pineapple pie at Nogui’s and that was simply amazing. Also as a side note I am actually writing this review from Tamarindo, Costa Rica. My favorite part of the book is when they are trying to out run a forest fire while leaking gasoline out of their vehicle.
David and I are retiring to Costa Rica, and we have purchased books in the past, on line search, and this book is full of information for the common traveler or someone considering moving to Costa Rica. We worth the purchased, we are very happy that we came across this book. This book covers from hotels, to grocery's, cars....
