I love my small rice cooker, and wanted to steam fish and veggies with my rice for one pot meals. I bought a larger rice cooker to get one with a bpa free plastic steamer basket. (Any one know where I can get a bamboo basket?) I like the simple cooker with just cook and warm settings. Mr. Sutton has some tasty recipes that can be made in a simple rice cooker. I was disappointed that 1/3 of the 26 recipes require the newer cookers that have multi-settings and lots of buttons. These machines function as slow cookers and even as pressure cookers. They even have a special porridge setting. He only had one recipe using the steamer basket. Should have titled cookbook to indicate many recipes were for these advanced rice cookers-plus.
We have all seen new gadgets and cooking appliances to make our lives easier, that we buy , use once and never again. BUT this.!!!!! I use it every single day. fits under my cabinet, pull out, and use. I heat my food, instead of a microwave, I steam my veggies with ease. I can walk away, Alarm goes off and rice it done, no checking 10 times to see if its burning or sticking to pan. This never sticks, cleans extremely easy and keeps your food warm , for the straggler member of the family , when they come in. I bought this for my Mom for birthday and had no idea, she already had one, so I decided to keep, when she said she loves hers. Best birthday mistake I ever made.
Not a bible by any means. I wanted a book that would tell me how to cook dishes besides rice--dried beans and other grains. This book won't tell you that, unfortunately. If you want more rice recipes, on the other hand, that it's got.
Recipes too complicated and use ingredients I cannot find in the store.
I really do like this rice cooker. It makes really yummy rice very time and I'm not a rice lover.

Pretty good, explained how to use. I've made rice and 'steamed' pasta elbows. Great for rice, amount of water determined how WELL rice is cooked. I've even put in one cup rice and one elbow macaroni and steamed for 13-15 minutes. Then drained. Both came out cooked. Going to do rice and veggies next.
