Can't see why he was so into her ... she has serious anger issues. It was mentioned that she bit him (and it was not only 1 time) so hard that he had a scar on his back from it. I had a hard time understanding what the attraction was for him. The weird thing was I didn't remember her acting like this in other books. I re-read Ice's book and sure enough, there she was fighting kicking and biting --- I guess I just didn't remember that. Also, close to the beginning - she invites him over and asks him to come to the back of her home because she knows that there are tons of bees and that he will get stung. She was just a mean girl. Penni is so into Train and thinks he is her One, yet he has never given her any signal that he was interested in her that way. She even picks a fight with Killyama when she finds out that she also likes Train. The girl is nuts. I just didn't get why he liked her so much and wanted her for his old lady. I also did not get how Raci could do what she did to the club and the club was going to vote but she probably would not be kicked out - yet Bliss was kicked out for just being a b***h .... WTH ... that made NO sense AT ALL! Also, if it so dangerous that everyone has to be at the club house, why would the wives get to go to the mall with the kids...
I'm really surprised. Usually, the hero and heroine and grossly misunderstood, when mistakes are met, there is regret, and there are some redeeming qualities like loyalty and honesty. This was not the case here. Penni seemed to have anger management issues (adult way of describing) or tantrums (more apt). Jackal wanted Penni because all the other women were too nice or easy. Penni posed a challenge for Jackal, and instead of thinking... red flag... she's kind of abusive, he thinks "MAMA MIA, come to papa!"**** Spoilers ****Jackal cheats on Penni, and she forgives him. His explanation was something like --look... I need to put the club first... you understand.... all the other men would have hurt the ones they loved. Penni leaves him and you would have thought he would have learned his lesson. WRONG.Later, after Penni forgives him in a moment of weakness where someone has killed some of the swans in the lake, she cries... he hugs her... and then they are together. Jackal finds himself enraptured with Penni and the club undergoes an assault. He says something like... Penni -- I don't want to see you again Can't you understand.... All my brothers could have been killed because I was paying so much attention to you. What?!?She tries to call him and Jackal sends her brother saying not to contact him again. After 6 months, he returns and he's like "Where's Penni?" Oh she's waiting for him in a romantic place and tells him that she doesn't care if he's been with a hundred women as long as he's back....What!???Penni is well connected, but that's about all in the pros column. She throws temper tantrums, and she has no self worth.Jackal says he loves Penni, but I seriously don't think he knows the meaning of the word. He shows loyalty, but this is to his club.I almost couldn't finish. Hated this.
I'm a huge JB fan - love all her books some more than others. But this one definitely not. I've been looking forward to Penni and Jackal's book forever and What a big disappointment. It's boring, and I'm not liking Penni - I had to stop reading I can't continue right now - I had to take a break - from what I read it doesn't get any better. But I'll pick it back up at some point. I sure hope Train and Killiyama 's book is better.
YAY! Penni & Jackal finally got their turn!! Their story was jam-packed with action, temper-tantrums, sexual tension & some of Jamie Begley’s most-talked-about characters!! *cough* The Last Riders *cough* It felt so good to get back to the Predators, even if most of Hostage seemed like it took place AWAY from Queen City!I LOVED Jackal & Penni as a couple. They had great chemistry together (although I wanted MORE sex) & their banter was fun & entertaining. It’s amazing how much these characters changed throughout the book. They started out explosive; full of lust, hatred, arrogance, sass & stubbornness… And they ended in soul mate mode; full of warm, fuzzy duckies-&-swan-love, loads of forgiveness & more playful, easy-going attitudes. Dare I say they ended up like slightly “watered-down†versions of the Jackal & Penni we’d grown to know & love? Nothing wrong with them, just different, more mild… maybe some call it more mature? I don’t know for sure.Penni was a HUGE surprise for me. I wasn’t expecting the bottled up rage, the secret crush or her later VERY forgiving nature. I admired Penni’s tenacity in wanting to get her man back (yes, there is a bit of separation between the two later on in the book) but I was super surprised with how it played out. Even after most of the beans were spilled, she still remained somewhat of an enigma to me.I LOVED watching Jackal chase Penni & LOVED learning just how much she affected him (who doesn’t like to get inside a Hero’s head, am I right?) but man, that damn Predator Oath… I just can’t take that stupid thing anymore! Didn’t he learn ANYTHING from Ice’s downfall in Riot? Your woman does NOT need to take a back seat to your club to prove that “you’re the man†or whatever. On a happier note: the piercings rocked, the spankings were wicked & the later on celibacy thing really stoked my fire! :)One thing happened in this book that I just can’t get over… and it had to do with The Last Riders. The original eight members ticked me off big time with an idiotic decision they made (one they didn’t even bother to vote on) concerning one of the other members. I’m not going to name names since that’d spoil a juicy plot point but with all the crap the original eight members spew about loyalty & trust, this decision does NOT sit well with me. At. All. Hopefully, it'll be addressed in the next Last Rider book!Odds & Ends:*Is it Ginny or Genny because in ALL of the past books where she was mentioned, it was Ginny but in this book, it was Genny. Either way, I like where things are heading for her! Awesome change of scenery!!*Mag- You were freakin’ hilarious woman! Thank you for that!!*Grace’s “developmentâ€- Why did that need to happen? I’m hoping it’s a set-up for a future storyline because I just didn’t get it otherwise.*Winter & Viper- So, are we getting a novella for them before Train’s Clash comes out or what? *hint hint**No Predator club wh*** or stripper drama? I was almost positive there’d be some Crush or Juliet smackdowns! Nuts.*Editing- Feel like it could’ve used another run through with the editor… Found lots of spelling/grammatical errors that made it a bit distracting to read at times. Now, the countdown is on for the MOST ANTICIPATED book of the series… Train’s Clash! CANNOT WAIT to unravel the mysteries that are Train & Killyama!!
